The mental health of the NHS workforce was a cause for concern even before pandemic. Workload is major contributor, as feeling not belonging. Doctors describe more like itinerant workers than valued members team. We hear distressed trainees, passing through programmes without their consultants knowing name. Or professional loneliness peripatetic working makes it hard to meet colleagues. Covid-19 has highlighted importance staff’s psychological needs, particularly if we expect them attend needs own patients.
